The Importance of Nutrition and Sleeping Habits In The Classroom Having good nutrition and sleeping habits is very important for education. It is important for children and adolescents to perform well in the classroom so that they get the most out of their education. Having poor sleeping habits or poor eating habits can have many harmful effects on a child’s classroom performance. If children have good eating habits as well as good sleeping habits they will perform better and be able to live up to their potential. Good nutrition is very important for children in all areas of their life but it is a key factor in how they perform in the classroom. Some children do not get enough to eat each day because their families lack money to buy sufficient food. Other children consume enough food but have diets high in fat, sugar, and sodium that put them at risk for obesity or heart disease and other chronic illnesses† ( ). These poor diets can harm a child’s classroom performance and impede their learning ability. â€Å"Poor nutrition among children in America is on the rise. This is due, in part, to poor eating habits like skipping meals, overeating, working parents eating on the run, and fast-food establishments† ( ). These factors not only cause a child health problems but also impedes their learning. If a child cannot use his cognitive abilities to the fullest it will be harder to learn, participate in class, and function properly throughout the day. â€Å"Inadequate nutrition affects the long ter m development of the child† ( ).
